    Everything You Need to Know
    About Site Clearances

    What It Is

Site clearance is the complete removal of vegetation from a defined area. This includes trees (felling and removal), shrubs, hedges, scrub, brambles, undergrowth, ivy and ground cover. We also provide stump grinding, root removal and soil preparation as required. We handle everything from a neglected rear garden to a multi-acre development site.

    Who It's For

Property developers preparing sites for construction. Homeowners clearing overgrown or abandoned gardens. Estate managers and land owners maintaining rural and semi-rural plots. Local authorities managing public land. Landlords clearing properties between tenancies. Anyone taking on a property with a garden that's been left to grow wild.

    When You Need It

Before construction or development begins. When a garden or plot has become completely overgrown and unmanageable. When preparing land for sale or lease. When invasive species (Japanese knotweed, giant hogweed, Himalayan balsam) require professional removal. When seasonal clearance is needed to prevent regrowth on managed sites.

    Why Professional Help Matters

DIY clearance of anything beyond a small area is impractical, slow and often more expensive than professional clearance when you account for skip hire, tool hire, time and disposal costs. Professional clearance is faster (we clear in days what takes individuals weeks), comprehensive (we handle trees, stumps, roots and waste in one operation), and compliant with waste regulations and ecological requirements.

The Risks of Neglecting Site Clearance

    !

Overgrown sites attract fly-tipping, anti-social behaviour and vermin. As the landowner, you carry legal responsibility for dealing with these issues — including waste that others dump on your land.

    !

Invasive species spread rapidly on neglected sites. Japanese knotweed can spread to neighbouring properties and cause mortgage valuation problems. Giant hogweed is a public health hazard. Both require specialist treatment.

    !

Planning applications on uncleared sites are routinely delayed or refused because ecological surveys cannot be completed until vegetation is managed. Early clearance keeps your project timeline on track.

    !

Neglected vegetation grows into and damages boundary fences, walls and structures. Root systems from unchecked trees crack foundations, lift paths and block drains. Remediation costs far exceed clearance costs.

    !

Many local authorities can serve notice requiring you to clear land that has become a nuisance. Failing to comply results in the council carrying out the work and billing you — typically at 2–3x market rate.

    How We Deliver
    Site Clearances

    1

    Site Survey

We walk the site, assess the scope of work, identify any ecological constraints (protected species, TPOs, conservation area) and produce a detailed clearance plan.

    2

    Ecological Checks

Where required, we arrange ecological surveys for nesting birds, bats, reptiles and protected plants. Work is scheduled to comply with all wildlife legislation.

    3

    Systematic Clearance

We clear vegetation systematically from one end to the other. Trees are felled, scrub is cut and cleared, stumps are ground, and all material is processed.

    4

    Waste Processing

Green waste is chipped on-site and removed for recycling. Timber is processed into firewood or biomass. We operate a zero-to-landfill policy on all green waste.

    5

    Final Handover

We walk the site with you for final inspection. The area is left clean, level and ready for its next use — whether that's construction, landscaping or sale.

    Why Clients Choose Us
    for Site Clearances

    Single Contractor Solution

Trees, hedges, scrub, stumps and waste — all handled by one team under one contract. No coordinating multiple contractors.

    Ecologically Compliant

We arrange and manage all required ecological surveys and schedule work around protected species. Full compliance with wildlife legislation.

    Zero to Landfill

All green waste is recycled — chipped for mulch, processed into firewood or composted. Nothing goes to landfill.

    Development-Ready Handover

Sites are left clean and level, ready for groundworks, landscaping or construction to begin immediately.

    Transparent Pricing

Detailed, itemised quotes with no hidden extras. Fixed pricing for defined scope. Variations agreed before additional work begins.

Site Clearance Methods, Equipment and Considerations

Small to medium clearances (residential gardens, car parks, plots under 0.5 acres) are typically handled by a crew of 2–4 with chainsaws, brush cutters, a chipper and a grab-loader. This setup handles everything from mature trees to ground-level scrub in a single operation.

Large-scale clearances (development sites, woodland, sites over 0.5 acres) deploy tracked machinery — mulchers, excavators with tree shears, and forestry-grade chippers. This significantly reduces clearance time and cost per square metre on large sites.

Invasive species require specific treatment. Japanese knotweed is a controlled waste under the Environmental Protection Act — it cannot be disposed of through normal green waste channels. We arrange compliant disposal through licensed facilities. Giant hogweed is treated with herbicide before removal due to its toxic sap.

Ecological considerations drive the clearance schedule. Bird nesting season (March–August) restricts clearance of scrub and hedgerow. Bat surveys may be required before tree felling. Great crested newt surveys are needed near ponds. We manage the entire ecological survey and licensing process.

On development sites, we work alongside the project team to ensure clearance aligns with the construction programme. We can phase clearance to match planning conditions and retain trees specified for preservation.

All waste is tracked and documented. We provide waste transfer notes as standard and can supply detailed waste management reports for construction projects with environmental compliance requirements.
