About Emergency Tree Removal
What It Is
Emergency tree removal is the rapid, controlled removal or making-safe of a tree that has fallen, partially failed, or is in imminent danger of failing. We handle wind-thrown trees, hung-up limbs, split unions, fractured stems, root-plate failures and trees blocking access to property, roads or driveways.
Who It's For
Homeowners with storm-damaged or fallen trees. Landlords and letting agents responding to tenant reports. Property managers, schools and commercial sites. Insurance loss adjusters who need a qualified arborist on site quickly. Local authorities and highways teams.
When You Need It
After named storms, gales over 50mph, or heavy snowfall. When you can hear cracking from a tree, see new lean, exposed root plates lifting from the ground, or limbs hung up in the canopy. When a tree has come into contact with a roof, conservatory, vehicle, fence or power supply.
Why Professional Help Matters
Damaged trees are unstable and unpredictable. Tension and compression in failed limbs can release suddenly, and untrained handling causes serious injury or further property damage. Our crews carry rigging, lowering equipment, MEWPs where needed, and the insurance cover that comes with professional arboriculture.
Why Emergency Tree Damage Gets Worse the Longer You Wait
Hung-up limbs continue to settle and shift in the wind. What looked stable at first light can fall by mid-afternoon — onto a car, a roof, or a person walking past.
Partial root-plate failures progress quickly in saturated ground. A tree that is 'leaning a bit' after a storm often fully uproots within 24–48 hours of further wind or rain.
Insurers expect prompt, reasonable action. Failing to make a known hazard safe can void cover for any subsequent damage caused by the same tree.
Fallen branches across drives and access routes block emergency vehicle access. Councils can issue fixed penalties for trees obstructing the public highway.
DIY chainsaw work on storm-damaged wood is one of the highest-risk activities in arboriculture — stored tension in compressed and bent stems causes catastrophic kickbacks.

Storm Damage and Fallen Trees — What to Do Right Now
If a tree has fallen on or near your property, your first job is to keep people safe. Move everyone — including pets — well clear of the tree, the root plate and the canopy. Fallen trees often look settled but the root plate can spring back, and tensioned limbs can release without warning.
If the tree is in contact with a power line, do not approach it. Call UK Power Networks on 105 immediately and keep at least 10 metres clear. We coordinate with the DNO before starting any work near live or downed conductors.
Photograph the damage from multiple angles before anything is moved. Wide shots showing context, close-ups of the failure point, and any damage to your property or fences. These photos are what your insurer will use to settle the claim.
Notify your buildings insurer as soon as you can. Most policies require you to take 'reasonable steps' to prevent further damage — that is exactly what calling a qualified arborist achieves. Keep our invoice; it forms part of your claim.
While you wait for us to arrive, do not attempt to cut into the tree. Storm-damaged wood is full of stored tension. A chainsaw cut in the wrong place releases that energy violently, and the most common A&E admission after a storm is a chainsaw injury sustained during DIY clearance.
Our crews will assess the failure mode (root failure, stem failure, branch failure or wind throw), identify safe rigging points, and remove the tree in controlled sections. For trees against buildings or in confined gardens we use sectional dismantling with calibrated lowering devices to bring every piece down without further impact.
Where access allows we bring our 19m MEWP, which lets us work above gardens, sheds and outbuildings without ever needing to climb a compromised stem. This is the safest option for any tree where the structural integrity is in question.
After the tree is down we chip the brash, remove all timber from site (or stack logs for you if requested), sweep paths and check for any damage to fencing, gutters or paving. The site is left clear and your insurer's loss adjuster has everything they need.
